There are few foods more appropriate for a Super Bowl party than a cheese ball. After all, the dish has the word ball in it! And this one, from Michelle Buffardi’s lactose-laden book, Great Balls of Cheese, takes the festivities to the next level.

Meet (or should we say meat?) the pigskin cheese ball.

“Not only will it make every single person at your party squeal with joy (cheese in a fun shape? That looks like a football? C’mon!), but it’s also super easy and no stress to make,” Buffardi says.

The book includes a meat-centric recipe (with bacon featured three different ways), but you can dress up your favorite recipe or use ours.

Simply make the cheese mixture, then put it on plastic wrap, wrap it up, and form it into a football shape. You can keep this whole thing in the fridge for one or two days. Before your party, cook up some bacon.

Once the bacon has cooled, crumble it (or chop it if you’re feeling fancy) and roll your unwrapped cheese ball in it. Place strips of cheddar cheese to resemble laces on top, and get the whole thing to the TV room in time for kick-off. Then you can make jokes about passing the old football around all night!
