You Need to See Nigella's (Almost) Edible Christmas Wreath
Forget decking the halls with boughs of holly, Nigella Lawson has a new direction for her decorating scheme — and it's a little more… vegetal. That's right, the domestic goddess herself has posted a photo of her wreath on Instagram, and it's studded with Brussels sprouts (!!!).
Or, fake Brussels sprouts, at least. "And the Christmas wreath is now in place," she announced on Instagram. "It is not made of actual Brussels sprouts, though," she added, noting that it means she can use it over and over again each year.
Then, to answer the question everyone was already wondering about, she disappoints the crowds by adding that she couldn't remember where she had gotten it from. "But the minute I remember," she promised her fans, "I will tell you."
But worry not, domestic goddesses-in-training, there are plenty of options to pursue your own Brussels sprout wreath. Good Housekeeping spotted such a thing last year at the British shop Waitrose, while Etsy of course has plenty of options for faux sprouts to add to your wreath, including crocheted, felted, or from plaster. And it might be a decade old, but Apartment Therapy (Kitchn's sister site) was early on the Brussels sprout wreath trend, suggesting that if you've already put together a Brussels sprouts Christmas tree, it might be time to consider using any leftovers to whip up a wreath. "Sure you're not supposed to play with your food, but would you make an exception for this," the article asked.
But if you are playing with your food, why not match your dessert to your door by taking a hint from the holiday special episode of Nailed It! Host Nicole Byers invites contestants to put together a giant turkey cake, and along with cake croutons and sculpted mashed potatoes, there are what a contestant calls "Fundant Bawllz," or fondant Brussels sprouts.
