Not even a month after Milo Ventimiglia had to make a Super Bowl ad to tell everyone their Crock-Pots were safe and would not catch fire unless they were living in a fictional TV melodrama, Instant Pot is actually warning customers to check their slow cookers, because some of them have been reportedly overheating and melting.

Instant Pot posted on its Facebook page that the company had received reports that the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker had been overheating, "resulting in localized melting damage to the underside of the product."

"We anticipate providing updated information and next steps regarding receiving a replacement Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker soon. In the meantime, we are asking all our customers with a Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker from batchcodes 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746 to immediately stop use of the product," the post reads.

Instant Pot says it believes the problem is limited to the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker with the batch code 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746.

There are 14 different Instant Pot models, and according to Consumer Reports, the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker is the only Instant Pot that is oval-shaped. If your Instant Pot is round, it is not affected by this announcement. If it's oval-shaped, however, you should make sure to flip it over and check the batch code before using it again.

The batch code is the four-digit number on the bottom right of the label on the bottom of the Instant Pot. If you have this model Instant Pot and the batch number is 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, or 1746, Instant Pot says to stop using it immediately.

The company says it expects to provide information about replacing the faulty Instant Pots soon, but for the time being it just says to stop using them.

Instant Pot said customers with questions or concerns about the problem could call their Customer Care team at 1-800-828-7280, extension 2.
