3 of the Best IKEA Hacks We've Seen Lately

IKEA hacks are like belly buttons — everybody has one. Or so it seems, right? The furniture and wares at the Swedish superstore are so inexpensive, that hacking something is a relatively low-risk project. If it doesn't work, oh well. But if it does, well, you look like a wizard who should be given an HGTV show ASAP.

So, yeah, lots of people paint, tweak, or come up with new uses for IKEA finds. And every once in a while, the resulting project is legitimately mind-blowing. In fact, we saw three IKEA hacks recently that were so smart, we felt compelled to write this post about them. Keep reading and prepare to be impressed.

1. Light Fixtures Made out of Stainless Steel Bowls

That's right! These expensive-looking lights were made out of BLANDA BLANK stainless steel bowls! "If we bought the lamps outright it would have been $2,345, but we made them for $207," says the creative mastermind behind the lights, who was inspired by designer fixtures. Honestly? It LOOKS like she spent two grand on them! See? Impressive!

2. A "Built-In" Breakfast Nook

"We created this 'built-in' breakfast nook ourselves with an easy IKEA hack for the bench and vintage table legs with a lacquered MDF table top cut to the size we needed," the renter explains. She used RAST nightstands (which are no longer available, but you get the idea) and screwed them together to create the length she needed. She painted them and added upholstery on top. Instant breakfast nook!

3. A Bag Organizer Turned into a Planter

Our friends over at Apartment Therapy came up with four oh-so-clever ways to reuse the VARIERA bag dispenser. While we loved them all, this one really stood out to us because it could look great in a kitchen or dining room.
