Whether you're serving a honey-glazed ham, pulled pork sandwiches, or just dipping bacon in the leftover puddle of maple syrup on your breakfast plate, pork and any kind of sweetness are best friends. That's why pork chops and applesauce are such a classic, and why pork chops work so beautifully in a fast and easy sauce like this quick honey-soy glaze made with golden honey and just a few other ingredients that could be in your pantry already.
This recipe adds a bit of savory saltiness with the addition of a bit of soy sauce and low-sodium chicken broth. The author recommends low-sodium broth for this recipe because full-sodium broth and soy sauce can make it turn out way too salty, and what this recipe is going for is more of a sweet-savory sauce with a nice balance to it.
Pork chops are an excellent protein for this, because they're tender, juicy, and they cook very quickly. To start, you season and dredge the pork chops in flour, then sauté them in butter and olive oil until they have a nice, golden-brown crust. Then you set them aside and use the same pan to make the honey-soy sauce, which sounds complicated but is actually extremely easy. The sauce is just honey, garlic, soy sauce, butter, and chicken broth, mixed in the pan and simmered for about a minute. Then you just put the pork chops back in the pan and allow them to simmer in the sauce for a few minutes, and that's it.
The whole recipe cooks in about half an hour, and it would be lovely served over rice or mashed potatoes. The honey-soy sauce has a great sweet-savory profile that would be delicious on almost anything. It would probably be just as good with chicken as with pork, and you could even use it to dress vegetables like carrots, green beans, or asparagus. Honey, soy sauce, and garlic are so right together that once you combine them, it's really hard to go wrong.
